Throughout your college career, please remember that employers recruit early! You should be speaking with companies in the fall for summer employment, and you should be interviewing for post-graduation opportunities the semester before your last.

Also keep in mind that you need to maximize your skills and experience in the areas that employers most value in their new hires:

  1. Interviewing Skills
  2. Internship / Co-op / Work Experience
  3. Leadership, design team experience and campus organization involvement
  4. GPA
Register with the COC on the third floor of Norwood Hall. Begin to use and get comfortable with MinerJobs which is an online tool that will connect you with summer internships.Attend the career fairs! Not many employers are looking for freshman, but introduce yourself and learn about companies – recruiters will remember you later!
Attend COC workshops – begin developing and honing your job search skills! These will benefit you throughout your career.Attend employer info sessions – begin the process of identifying employers you would like to work for!
Create your first resume.  An example can be found in the COC Student Guide.  Contact the COC to get expert help!  Create a contact list – family, friends of the family, recruiters you meet at the career fairs, etc.
Investigate and join student organizations on campus.  Get involved!Personal connections will be invaluable throughout your career!
